Questions
Is an AI talking to my kid?
No. The app has no AI in it. Your agent writes quests at night, ahead of time, and Jane checks them before your kid can see them. During play, nothing is sent to an AI.
Where does my kid's data live?
Only in your own setup: your Cloudflare account, or a folder or Docker volume on your computer. Your agent keeps backups and nightly exports on its own computer. Nothing goes into the public code repo.
Do I need Grok Bot?
No. Any AI agent that can run small Node.js programs on a schedule can follow BOT-SETUP.md. You can also write quests yourself; the nightly guide shows how.
Does the agent have to run Jane on its own computer?
No. It can, or Jane can run somewhere you choose (Cloudflare, a home computer, Docker) while the agent just does the nightly work.
What does it cost?
Jane is free and open source. It runs on Cloudflare's free plan or on a computer you already have. The only other cost is whatever AI agent you already use.
What ages is it for?
Grades 3 to 6, about ages 8 to 12. You set your kid's age and grade, and Jane aims its questions there.
What if the agent skips a night?
Jane keeps working. The current quest stays, and the app falls back to its built-in questions, math practice and reviews.
Can I see what my kid will be shown?
Yes. Every quest is a readable file, and the parent report lists every answer. There's also a sandbox mode for trying things without touching the real progress.
Can more than one kid use it?
Today each Jane setup is for one kid. Support for more than one learner is on the roadmap; for now, set up a separate copy for each kid.
What is Agent-Orchestrated Software?
Kent Langley's name for software that your own AI agent adapts, fills with content and keeps up to date from outside the app. See How it works.

Jane was designed by Kent Langley and Landon, and developed with Grok Bot, an AI assistant, from their feedback on what was fun, what was confusing and what was too hard.
